The Kings Fall of Manus (& why I renamed the Sombrun Waterfalls : )

I love waterfalls! Seriously, who doesn’t?!

The bigger they are, the more water cascading down, the higher the falls, the bigger and deeper the pool, the more ‘mysterious’ and jungle clad it is, the more fascinating the fall becomes.

The King Falls, Liap. More pics with this post.

I have been to waterfalls all over the country. Some large, some small, some which fall from such great heights the water turns to mist and droplets, others that power down hard, cold and fast, knock you off your feet, pound your brain senseless. [Read more →]

Lou Island: Obsidian and Kindness in Manus

I arrived at Rei Village, Lou Island, the boat’s motor idling as the sea pounded away at the beautiful shoreline. We could see people milling around the beach and on the embankments on both side of it under a giant kwila tree. It was Tuesday 22nd, February 2011.

The skipper of the banana boat, Lloyd Senang expertly waited for a wave to come in. One of the passengers shouted ‘whoop’ and Lloyd revved the engine onto the crest of the incoming wave and we surfed the boat up and onto the beautiful Rei beach.

Manus Green Snail – My Crazy Tiny Safari

When I was in Manus, one thing I had to do, no matter the cost was to see, to find, to videotape and photograph a real live Manus Green snail in the heartlands of this beautiful island.

When I mentioned this to the locals, they said ‘go to the market and buy a shell.’  I explained that I didn’t want a shell of an empty experience. I am a Papua New Guinean in my beautiful country, I want the experience of what makes this country so unique and exotic.
